Metro Trinity was the beginning of Jonny Male's musical
journey, which begann back in 1987 with the post Kitchenware-C86esque EP
"Die Young". In 1989, after being introduced to Chicago House Music he
teamed up with Guy Batson and Jhelisa Anderson to begin the project Soul
Family Sensation. Their debut album "New Wave" (on One Little
Indian) was praised by the British press and with their single "I don't
even know if i should call you baby" the band had their first club and
chart success. Shortly after this, Jhelisa left the band to work with The
Shamen and Jonny and Guy decided to shorten the name to Sensation.
In 1993, their masterpiece "Burger Habbit", also on One Little Indian,
was released to critical acclaim, the single "Beautiful Morning",
being nominated for Single of the week in serveral publications. On this record,
Jonny and Guy demonstrated their great talent to mix British popsounds (Prefab
Sprout, New Order, Pet Shop Boys)
with inspired, orginal, new club sounds. Between 1993 and 1995, Jonny and Guy
recorded their second album which recently was thought to be lost. Jonny went on
many other bands and projects including Airstream (where he
played with Martin Duffy from Felt/now Primal Scream),
songwriting with friends like St. Etienne ("Hug my
soul"), material with Sarah Cracknell for her solo album, music with Sub
Sub (now Doves), Denim and Lawrence's
new incarnation Go Kart Mozart. Jonny became a permanent member
of Republica in 1996 co writing worldwide hit "Ready to
go". He has also started his own new band Cheap Glue with
a forthcoming EP ("Sexy horses") and album ("I will kill
again") scheduled for release later this year. "Yesterday Things Got
Worse" is the now famous Sensation album. Although it was
produced back in 1995, it still sounds as fresh and up to date as anything
releassed in the last few month showing how Jonny and Guy were so far ahead of
their time. Sensation are in the same league as St.
Etienne, Electronic, Groove Armanda
or Air.
