Goldstoned - Our Man In Soulburbia
Somewhere between Penny Lane,
Motown and Birdland lies the world of Goldstoned. A place whose atmosphere is
filled with good vibes of driving drumbeats, sharp guitars, some harpsicord,
piano, harmony-vocals and bass-lines that have a touch of being left-handed.
Patrick Goldstein hereby presents his second solo-album "Our Man in
Soulburbia" (1998) and proves himself a sophisticated multi instrumentalist
with a knack for classic pop songs and some Brian-Wilson-ish sense of humor.
Some standout-tracks: There is the opener "Recreation" in which
Goldstoned wraps 60's soul around some acidic lyrics. We also have
"Lovebomb": this one shows Goldstoned's talent to present a straight
piece of Beatles-Pop which still takes some time for the listener to discover
all the different components and turns-of. The same can be said about the whole
album: Easy to enjoy, a joy to discover.
With "Our Man in Soulburbia" and "Puzzle" (the 1997 album
from Goldstoned's other band Caroline Now!) "Vinyl Japan"
re-released two albums from Goldstoned's label Pat Sounds, timeless music
that still sounds fresh today. The Japanese Label Quince
Records has also released a "Best of..."-CD of Goldstoned ("The
Ready Steady Goldstoned LP3"), featuring the "Ready Steady
Goldstoned EP", and other material, many of which has not been released
before.
The next Goldstoned album "I was a teenage Pop-Addict" is in
work and will be releasaed in 2001.
Latest work from Goldstoned is featured on the Roettger/Goldstein single
"Du stahlst mir mein Herz" (FST 20, December 2000)
