Mit Amber Smith ist FST ein grossartiges Signing gelungen. Bei dem Namen habe ich ja erst auf eine amerikanische Folksaengerin getippt, aber nein, hinter Amber Smith steckt eine vierkoepfige - Achtung - ungarische Band. Die vier Songs auf der Maxi "there is no way" wurden demzufolge auch in Budapest aufgenommen. Nun habe ich, das muss ich zugeben, im Woerterbuch nachgeschlagen, ob sich hinter Amber etwas versteckt. Und richtig, es heisst Bernstein. Wie ein solcher ist auch diese Band und ihre Musik. Ein Kleinod, das man erst nach langem Suchen findet, das dann in der Sonne funkelt und das Herz zum Strahlen bringt. Das schaffen auch die Songs von Amber Smith. Popmusik mit dem zarten Schmelz wunderbarer Melodien und der Hingabe an das grosse Gefuehl, mal heftiger e-gitarrig, dann wieder entspannt akustisch. Das erinnert an die grossen Momente von Strangelove, Geneva oder Coldplay. Kaemen sie aus England, waeren sie das "next big thing". So liegt es an Euch: supported sie, tragt ihren Namen in die Welt, liebt sie! Und vergesst Brit-Pop, hier kommt pop-magyaroszeg!

Amber Smith's debut EP was recorded in Budapest between February and August of last year and consists of four songs. The songwriter is one Imre Poniklo, who with his three co-partners, has produced a brilliant debut EP, which is reminiscent of the early work of Gene, especially from their 'Around the Dead' period. Another name which come to mind is Coldplay, although they are better than them, while on the last track 'Above the Clouds', which is an acoustic based ballad, Imre has the same vocal style as Patrick Duff of the much missed Strangelove. I suppose that could throw in names like Radiohead and Muse as well, but they are much more like Gene than anyone else.

Again T got this as it was just all the rage with the indie "in" set. I can't remember what he thought of it but I'm pretty sure he disliked it in a big way. (don't forget, he's very angry) I don't know where this band comes from but it's somewhere in Europe and appears to be the vehicle for singer/songwriter Imre Poniklo who sings with what's an almost whinny, high, "heartfelt" lilt to his voice and musically it reminds me somewhat of Gene in sound. (but not their better stuff) That's a comparison that can be made for most of this.Track three has some particularly annoying guitar riff "falsettos" in it and overall it didn't take long for this to start irritating my whole family. About the only tolerable thing is the last track, a slow acoustic number called Above the Clouds. Well, I have to be honest and say this did have one other thing going for it as well. It was thankfully short.
